I didn’t know how to help my kids – I thought (and hoped!) they were receiving the advice and direction they needed from their school.
Zach, my oldest son, took the Strong Interest Inventory in high school. His results suggested he’d be a good lawyer. But he’d seen Law & Order. He watched lawyers who argued ridiculous lawsuits. And he was sure he didn’t want to be a lawyer.
Now 5 years later, he has a degree in linguistics and history and has thankfully finally found a path that aligns with his interests, but he does wish he had considered law with a different specialty.
How could we have avoided that?
Communication, connection, my support and encouragement and more guidance and understanding of the many different paths he could have chosen.
It didn't stop with Zach. My two other kids had similar experiences.
The best part of being on the Career Puppy team is now I can help parents NOT make the same missteps and mistakes I made with my children.
As a bonus, I’ve found my mission: connecting people with their life’s passion!
